How to Change Squarespace Template in 7.0 & 7.1

How to Change Squarespace Template?

In version 7.0, you can switch to a different template to drastically change your site's design and structure.

This guide covers how to switch templates on version 7.0.

Accessing the Template Switching Feature

To switch templates in version 7.0:

1. Open the Design panel and click Template.

2. Click Install new template.

3. Browse the available templates. When you find one you like, hover over it and click Start with.

4. The template will now appear in your Template panel, below the live template.

Previewing the Template

Before switching to a new template, you can preview it to see how it looks with your content:

1. Hover over the template in the Template panel and click Preview.

2. While logged in, you'll see the new template's demo content to give you an example of the new structure and style options.

3. Visitors won't see this preview.

4. To cancel the preview, click Cancel preview in the bottom bar. Any changes you've made will save.

Moving Your Pages

To start editing in Preview Mode:

1. Open the Pages panel and remove the demo content.

2. Move your pages from the Not Linked section to the navigation areas.

3. Visitors won't see these changes until you publish the template.

Styling the Template

Use site styles to edit the design, including fonts, colors, backgrounds, and padding. Each template has its own styling options.

Publishing the Template

When ready to set the template live:

1. Click Set as live template in the bottom bar.

2. Click Confirm.

3. Your new template is now visible to visitors.

Uninstalling a Template

1. Ensure the template isn't discontinued before uninstalling.

2. If live, set a different template live first.

3. Hover over the template and click Uninstall, then Confirm.

Managing Multiple Templates

• The live template has a Live label in the Template panel.

• A previewed template has a Previewing label.

• Use Ctrl + F to find a template.

• Use the ? shortcut to move between panels.

Template Availability

• Use template categories to identify the best design.

• Try switching to a different template from the same family if you don't see the one you want.

• Encore, Lincoln, Bryler, and Taylor templates aren't available.

In version 7.1, you can't switch templates, but you can make design changes without starting over. 

Previewing templates is the best way to learn how they work.
