How to Change Favicon on Squarespace?
Favicons, or browser icons, are small square images that display next to a page's title in browser tabs and other places across the web. Adding a custom favicon can help make your Squarespace site more recognizable and branded.
Quick Fix
To change the favicon on a Squarespace website:
- Log in to your Squarespace account and navigate to the website you want to edit.
- In the Home Menu, click on "Design" and then select "Logo & Title".
- Scroll down to the "Browser Icon" section and click on "Replace".
- Choose an image from your computer that you want to use as your favicon. It is recommended to use a square image with dimensions of at least 512×512 pixels for best results.
- After selecting the image, Squarespace will automatically generate different sizes of the favicon for different devices and browsers.
- Click on "Save" to apply the changes to your website.
- It may take some time for the new favicon to appear, as it needs to propagate across the internet.
When choosing a favicon, keep the following best practices in mind:
Image Resolution
Favicon images work best when sized between 100px × 100px and 300px × 300px, though they display at 16px × 16px. Search engines may have their own requirements, like Google's recommendation of multiples of 48px square.
File Format
Use a .png file for your favicon image, as Squarespace does not support .ico files.
File Size
Favicon image files cannot exceed 100 KB.
Multi-Version Favicons
Squarespace does not currently support multiple versions of a favicon, so use a single image version.
If your new favicon is not appearing, it could be due to caching issues, an incompatible file format or size, or a technical problem with the implementation. Try clearing your browser cache, re-uploading the file, and consulting Squarespace's support documentation.
